Would buying my boyfriend skincare items for his acne be improper?

He has severe acne and our one year anniversary is coming up. I think he is perfect the way he is, but I know his self esteem isn't great. I was thinking of getting him a non irritating expensive acne treatment kit in hopes that it would help him out, but I'm not sure if this could be taken in a bad way or not. I don't want to offend him, I want to help him. Advice?
