Quake 2 Graphics Problems!?

I installed the quake on my computer but the problem is when I put my video settings to default Open GL it does not show effects like blood or when you shoot from a gun a trail, or if you shoot the wall it doesn't show small particles falling off it! I have ATI radeon xpress 200m/1100m I changed drivers and it doesn't work! My other computer plays the game fine! When I play the game in default video settings it shows details like blood but if I put resolution to more 800 or more than the game freezes and kicks me out! If any one knows what the problem is let me know!
