Why do you think Mohandas Gandhi’s methods helped force the British to grant India independence?

Since he was using non-violent methods, such as pive resistance, it made the British people look like fools for continuing to beat the Indians while they just sat back and dealt with it. The Indians did not do anything back to the British to harm them. Also the method of civil disobedience, when the Indians would refuse to abide by laws made by the British. Gandhi led a group of people on a walk to the Indian Ocean to make their own salt because the British were forcing the Indians to buy salt from them that was being made in their own country just so the British could profit from it.
